CHILDRENS' CORNER

Finger Paints

When my kids were little, it always seemed to me like the closer we got to the end of summer, the more restless they became. Yes … even ready for school to begin! This recipe not only gives them something extra to do, but is simple enough, that with a little supervision, the kids can make their own paints, adjusting colors as they go along.

Mix together:

½ c. dry laundry starch
¾ c. cold water

Cook the above slowly until clear.

Soak 1 envelope unflavored gelatin in ¼ cup water. Add mixture to the above.

Stir in ½ c. soap or detergent flakes.

Divide into jars and color with food coloring. Remember that the kids can learn how colors mix together, by starting with the primary colors – red, blue and yellow. Yellow plus blue = green; red plus blue = purple; yellow plus red = orange, etc.
